A life-changing brain injury can happen in an instant. Often, this results in a visit to the emergency room. Following the emergency room, many patients receive care and rehabilitation in an acute hospital. Although initial therapy is important, recovery does not end with inpatient rehabilitation. In fact, 40 percent of all patients hospitalized with traumatic or acquired brain injuries are discharged with unmet needs. Mentis addresses those needs and continues rehabilitation in a realistic home-like setting to complete the transition back home and to work whenever possible. Completing rehabilitation in this specialized setting helps people develop the skills necessary for long-term success.
