Mission
Mentis provides the highest level of post acute neuro-rehabilitation to persons who have sustained an acquired brain injury or who are significantly challenged by neurological conditions that restrict mobility, social interaction, communication, employability and re-entry into their homes and communities. Mentis strives to be recognized as an industry leader in the field of residential neuro-rehabilitation, vocation and community re-entry services.

Cindy Ivanhoe, MD - Chief Medical Officer
Cindy Ivanhoe, M.D. serves as Chief Medical
Officer for Mentis Neuro Rehabilitation. In addition to creating and overseeing the program model for Mentis, Dr. Ivanhoe was Director of the Brain Injury and Stroke Program at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) from 1996 to 2006. She has been board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since completing her post-doctorate brain injury rehabilitation fellowship through Baylor College of Medicine at TIRR in 1993.
Dr. Ivanhoe serves as Associate Professor for Baylor College of Medicine University of Texas Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Alliance and is a multiple recipient of their R. Edward Carter, Jr., M.D. Clinical Achievement Award for Continuing Contributions and Accomplishments. She was also presented with the Professional Contribution Award by the Brain Injury Association of Texas in 2000 and was the youngest recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. She has trained medical students, residents and fellows in brain injury from the US and abroad.
As a member of the Easter Seals Spasticity Management and Movement Disorder Advisory Board since 2001, Dr. Ivanhoe been recognized as an international expert and speaker on spasticity management and hypertonia. She continues to apply her knowledge in treating patients with brain injuries across the continuum of care, from the acute setting, inpatient rehabilitation and into the community.

Eric Spier, MD - Medical Director, Mentis El Paso
Eric T. Spier, M.D. serves as medical director for the Mentis Neuro Rehabilitation El Paso program. In addition to his duties overseeing patient treatment for Mentis, Dr. Spier serves as medical director for acquired brain injury at Highlands Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. He is an attending physician at both Sierra Providence Rehabilitation hospital, and Las Palmas Rehabilitation hospitals. Further, Dr. Spier acts as consultant at any of the other seven medical centers in town for rehabilitation, pain management and spasticity.
In June of 2002, Dr. Spier graduated from medical school at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. He then completed his residency at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is currently the physician liaison for TIRR in El Paso.
As a third generation El Paso physician, Dr. Spier specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has designed much of his practice to focus on the care of patients with acquired brain injuries. He currently works to coordinate a spectrum of resources in brain injury care that will serve a population of El Paso. With his position as medical director with Mentis, Dr. Spier is able to treat and manage patients with acquired and traumatic brain injury and spasticity from the acute setting to their transition back to their community.
